Project Description and Objectives

The rotary desiccant wheel cooling system operates on the principles of adsorption, dehumidification, and evaporative cooling. The system adopts a natural substance as a working fluid and can be driven by low grade thermal energy such as solar energy. Due to these merits, solar powered the rotary desiccant wheel cooling system has been recognized as a good alternative to the conventional vapor compression air conditioning system and has obtained increasing interest in the past few years. Based on whether an auxiliary refrigeration system is adopted, the systems are divided into two categories: separate solar powered rotary desiccant wheel cooling systems and hybrid solar powered rotary desiccant wheel cooling systems.


The objectives of this project are to further develop the latest developments in dehumidification cooling system and to provide information for potential application of the technology.


Eligibility Requirements

  • The interested student should have basic knowledge of air-conditioning, dehumidification cooling technology, etc.
  • Excellent writing and speaking communication are essential


Main Tasks

Be familiar with dehumidification cooling technology.

Can propose a new system design and do simulation.

Proceed with experimental validation of the concept.

Write a technical report on the results.
